Wooden table bases for interiors that need warmth
Wood does something steel cannot: it makes a room feel domestic. In hospitality that matters, because a guest who feels at home stays longer and orders more. The difficulty has always been that timber alone does not survive commercial use — it works loose at the joint, it moves with humidity, and it marks.
Our wooden range solves this by separating appearance from structure. The column is turned from solid timber, but it sits on a steel base plate, so the load path and the fixing points run through metal while the material the guest sees and touches is wood. The result behaves like a metal base and reads like a wooden one.
Species across the range include oak, maple, cherry, birch, cedar, alder, willow and sequoia, each turned to the same standard height so that models can be mixed within one interior without a step in table level.
Where wooden bases work best
- Restaurants with a residential character — where the design intent is comfort rather than efficiency.
- Boutique hotel breakfast rooms — timber photographs well and softens rooms that are otherwise hard-surfaced.
- Cafes and bakeries — the material sits naturally alongside warm lighting and exposed brick or plaster.
- Retail hospitality corners — bookshop cafes, showroom lounges, anywhere the furniture should not read as contract furniture.
Finish and colour
Timber is finished in wood varnish, which can be matched to a stain sample supplied with the order. The steel base plate and any exposed metal fittings are powder coated in any RAL colour, so the metal can either disappear into the timber tone or be used deliberately as a contrast — black plates under pale oak is the combination we produce most often.

One limitation worth knowing
Varnished timber is an indoor material. It will not hold up on an uncovered terrace, beside a pool, or anywhere it is washed down daily — the varnish lifts and the timber greys. If part of your project is exposed to weather, specify wooden bases inside and metal or stainless steel outside. We would rather tell you this now than replace bases in eighteen months.
