How to choose a commercial table base
A table base is one of the few pieces of furniture in a venue that nobody notices until it fails. When it does — a wobble no amount of shimming fixes, a coating that lifts after one winter on the terrace, a model that cannot be reordered three years later — it gets replaced during trading hours, at the operator’s cost. Most of that risk is decided at specification stage, not on the production line.

Start with the environment, not the model
The single most useful question is where the table will stand:
- Dry indoor dining — metal for durability and stock availability, wooden where the room needs warmth, design where the table is part of the concept.
- Uneven or historic floors — cast iron. The mass sits low and settles rather than rocks.
- Wet, coastal or washdown areas — stainless steel. Nothing else survives salt and chlorine at the fixings.
- High-volume rollouts on a budget — composite. One specification, produced identically at volume.
Then check the top size
Base capacity is usually quoted as a weight figure, which is not how anyone specifies a table. We quote it as a top diameter instead, because that is the number already on your drawing. Five of the six ranges carry tops up to 80 cm as standard; composite stops at 60 cm. For reference, an 80 cm round marble top at 30 mm thickness weighs roughly 41 kg.
The fabricated ranges — metal, wooden, stainless and design — can be scaled beyond the standard size, because the base is built rather than cast. Cast iron and composite come from fixed moulds and cannot grow. That single distinction decides more specifications than material preference does.
